Live Lawrence!, a citywide partnership intended to celebrate local arts and culture, and stimulate economic development in Lawrence through a summer-long series of free concerts, continues its third season on Thursday, July 31st, with an evening of blues and barbecue at the Lawrence Heritage State Park. Sweet Willie D and the Continental Walk will headline the first of Live Lawrence’s Traveling Cafés, four outdoor concerts featuring musical performances and local fare from the city’s best restaurants at distinctive locations throughout Lawrence. The Traveling Cafés will take place from 5:30-7:30 PM. All are free and open to the public, and will take place rain or shine.
Island music on Island Street will be the theme of the August 28th Traveling Café, when reggae from Roots Nation rocks the Essex Art Center Courtyard at 56 Island Street. The block party will be fueled by delicious food available from Mill City Gourmet, and will feature two of 181 Canal Street’s fine retailers, Rose and Dove and Brissonte, showcasing their unique wares for the home and table.

All youth and any public are invited to join the City of Lowell and the Robert F. Kennedy Children's Action Corps at JFK plaza to take part in painting a giant dove. This is a demonstration for youth to express their feelings toward non-violence and social justice through public art.
Paint For Peace gives Lowell’s youth a great opportunity to provide solutions to a difficult social problem, helping them bring peace to their communities, helping them learn how to take an active role in civic initiatives, and letting them set an example for adults in Lowell to act on the need to address youth violence.
Paint for Peace, the brainchild of one of Boston’s most legendary artists, Sidewalk Sam, is an event that brings youth out into the streets to paint doves of peace anywhere violence has occurred or could occur. The doves serve as a visible reminder that the neighborhood has chosen to support the youth as they bring this message of hope to our communities.
Last year’s Boston Paint for Peace brought together over one thousand youth from Boston’s neighborhoods. Together with Mayor Menino, Stop Hand Gun Violence Inc, and Sidewalk Sam, teens created a huge dove of peace on City Plaza that launched a city wide movement to create an additional 600 doves to show the city’s commitment.
We want to bring this same act of solidarity and art to Lowell to show that we are also dedicated to supporting the youth in bringing, and sustaining peace in our communities. We’re trying to get as many people on board as possible to make the message that much more meaningful. We can never remind ourselves enough that youth are our future, and we need to support them as they move into their future roles as city leaders and citizens. This is also a fantastic way to connect with the community that we all are a part of.
